Co., GA to Brittain Griffin. Brittain died in 1816 in Twiggs Co., GA.
Brittain had a daughter [Patty] Anne who married Wm. Kerly. He also had a
dau. named Elizabeth, who married Wesley Lovell.

“Peter Griffin owned a plantation on the north side of the Saluda River, and
the ferry operator who lived across the river landed his flat on Griffin’s
property. Griffin complained that “The People that Cross at sd. Ferry comes
Through your Petitioner’s Plantation for near a quarter of a mile and very
often Leaves his gate Open so That the Neighboring Cattle gets in and
Destroys his Crop.”

“Your committee further Report on the Petitions of Robert Swanzey and Peter
Griffin, that they find it uncertain whether the new or Old ferry and road
are best and most Convenient for the Inhabitants therefore recommend that
John Colhoun on the South side and Patrick Cunningham on the North side of
Saluda be appointed to ascertain by the next meeting of the Legislature the
most fit and proper place for establishing a ferry, and that in the meantime
both roads be Kept open, and that Robert Swanzey and Peter Griffin each make
use of their respective flats on the river.”

It appearing to the court that WILLIAM CLEMMENTS have the care and to
maintain PETER GRIFFIN, a blind man for the span of five & a half months…It
is ordered on motion that the County Treasurer or JOHN WALPOLE pay to
WILLIAM CLEMENTS the sum of $27.50 for said care and maintenance out of any
funds in his hands not otherwise appropriated. Ordered that the County
Treasurer pay WILLIAM B. FILES, Sheriff an account amounting to $29. Ordered
that ANDREW J. PRESTON be paid the sum of $40.50 out of the first money not
otherwise appropriated.
