William Rotan Griffith served on a Grand Jury in Butler Co., Mo. in
1849 or 1851. In 1860 he was listed in Strawberry Township, Lawrence
Co, AR as a dentist.

     BIOGRAPHY
He was last located living with his parents in Butler Co., MO -- on the 1850 census. It is likely Wells, his mother, and sister-in-law, Martha Jane Crunk, fell victim to the cholera epidemic that swept through Southern Illinois and the Southeastern region of Missouri in 1851-2.

     BIOGRAPHY
An article in (?) stated "...(Daniel) was a farmer, and a blacksmith, and a Justice of the Peace in Fulton Co., Arkansas, a Democrat, and a general Baptist. He was educated in Eureka, AR by teacher Thomas Woods."

Daniel enlisted in Company B, 12th Arkansas Sharp Shooters and was assigned to the 14th Arkansas Confederate Infantry regiment (later changed to the 21st Arkansas) in October, 1861. He was in battles at Corinth, Iuka, Hatchey Bridge, Farmington, Port Gibson and Bakers Creek (same battle as the North called Champions Hill). He was captured at the battle of the Big Black River on May 17, 1863 and was supposedly sent to prison at Point Lookout, Maryland, then on to Fort Deleware Prison, and finally to Elmira Prison in New York. He was paroled and exchanged at Camp Lee, near Richmond, VA, Feb. 23, 1865.

In 1866 he married Isabelle Armstrong, a sister of Jane Armstrong, Dan Griffith Jr.'s wife.

     BIOGRAPHY
Terry Griffith fought in the Civil War for Captain Clayton's Confederate Infantry (10th Missouri Confederate Infantry). Family anecdotes relate that Terry and his brothers, William and Franklin, rode with Quantrill near the end of the war.

Clayton’s Company, 30-Day Volunteers, CSA: Notation on muster roll—“This company was raised at Ash Flat, Arkansas, in response to Colonel Borland’s call of November 5, 1861, mustered into the Confederate service on November 9, 1861, for 30 days, and discharged on December 9, 1861, at Pitman’s Ferry, Arkansas.
